Artifacts: IDLA Open House and Parent/Teacher Conferences
OVERVIEW: In my work with Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) it is always a challenge to get interaction from parents in an online environment. At a summer conference last year, someone suggested a "virtual" open house which inspired me to do one. Attendance was high so I did it again the next semester and added a mid-term "virtual" parent-teacher conference. I have been pleased with the attendance in the cohort classes, but unfortunately this format does not have the same success in the flex recovery classes. I plan to continue them in my cohort classes. Below is a sample of the open house presentation that I gave using Blackboard Collaborate as well as a copy of the announcement I posted and emailed to parents and students regarding the mid-term parent/teacher conference that followed a similar format.
Performance Indicator: The online teacher interacts in a professional, effective manner with colleagues, parents, and other members of the community to support students' learning and well-being.
