This will be where I will add my accomplishments and other things that reflect my growth as a teacher and curriculum developer.  I will also include areas where I've used technology in innovative ways in the classroom or to make things easier for students and/or teachers.

Dreaming Big-and in 3D-in Cambridge - February 2013

Last November, Sherie Moran, a Business Education teacher at Cambridge Junior/Senior High School, was invited to join the Autodesk Education Council at an annual technology conference where educators and business leaders come together to learn and discuss future trends. One of the trends discussed was the forecasted explosion in three dimensional (3D) printing. Thanks to several manufacturers being able to make smaller desktop 3D printers at a price point low enough for the small hobbyist, these revolutionary devices are becoming rapidly more available.

Not one to delay introducing students to the latest technologies, Moran got to work on putting together a grant application to purchase a 3D printer for the Business Education department. Moran also requested a digital scanner to enable students to scan objects that could be uploaded to the cloud for modification on a computer or iPad before sending to the printer.

With the support of her principal, who advised that she “dream big” when putting together the grant application, Moran presented the plan to the Upper Country Education Foundation, who quickly approved. According to UCEF board member Barbara Ertel, “the possibilities for cross-curricular lessons and a potential in-school business were obvious.” [more]

Teacher Takes 2nd at BPA Nationals - May 2012

Ms. Sherie Moran, a teacher at both Cambridge School District and Idaho Digital Learning Academy, earned four Top 10 finalist medals and one 2nd place finish in Management, Marketing and Human Resources-Open Event in Chicago at the 2012 BPA NLC-Postsecondary Division.  [photo]

Ms. Moran qualified in four different events with her 1st, 2nd, 3rd place honors and one 90% or Better Open Event at the State Leadership Conference in March.  She was a Top 10 finalist in her three judged events, but she placed 2nd place in a different open event than from State.  When asked why a different event, Ms. Moran replied, "I tried 7 of the 8 open event tests being offered in order to see what they involved so that I could better prepare my students for next year when BPA Nationals will be held in Orlando, Florida.  I never expected to actually win a place!"

While in Chicago, Ms. Moran enjoyed her trip to the Willis Tower best, "It was 103 floors which makes it the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere so the cars below look like Matchbox toys and the people look like ants!"
