Work experience

Computer Science, Engineering Systems, Manufacturing Technology, and Construction Technology Teacher
North Marion School District 15, Aurora, Oregon

2015 - present

In my latest rendition, I made the move from Business and Social Studies, to something a bit more hands on.  Not only do I teach web design, digital media, and computer programming, and technical support, I also teach manufacturing, construction, and robot engineering systems.  We use many different types of software for these subjects beyond the typical productivity tools, such as Adobe Creation Suite, Google's G-Suite, RobotC, Robot Virtual Worlds, Javascript, Html, SmartDraw, Mastercam, Code.org's CS Principles, Python, and too many others to list here. Most of my courses are mostly project-based and include career and technical education to prepare students for college or career prospects. In 2016 I also started two new CTE programs of study in Information Communication Technology and Construction Technology. Additionally, I developed eight different CTE pathways that guide students through 3 credits of coursework that result in special certification on their transcripts as well as recognition for their dedication to their own education at graduation.

Business, Marketing & Social Studies Teacher
Idaho Digital Learning Academy, Boise, Idaho

2007 - present

I have been teaching Social Studies part-time for IDLA since 2007 and I love it!  Online education is a great way to learn on your own schedule.  There is many a time that I am online working at odd hours and I see my students doing the same! Blackboard and BrainHoney learning management systems are used to deliver content and various communication tools (blogs, wikis, voice boards, discussion boards), multimedia (podcasts, videos, interactivities), and multiple intelligences (Blooms Taxonomy, Learning Styles) are incorporated into various text-dependent assignments. I received my certification in online education from Boise State University in 2014. In 2018, I was recognized as a Social Studies Best Practices Teacher.

Business, Economics & Social Studies Teacher
Cambridge School District 432J, Cambridge, Idaho

2007 - 2015

I started teaching Social Studies (history, government, geography) to grades 7-12 at rural Cambridge Jr/Sr High School in 2007.  After obtaining additional endorsements in 2011, I became the Business, Economics, Finance, Web Design, Publishing and Social Studies teacher.  With a median student population at 70, teaching assignments change every year and I often had multiple independent study students in the same class period.

Social Sciences Student Teacher

Capistrano Valley High School, Mission Viejo, California

2005 - 2006

I served both an extern and intern semester at this large high school in Southern California.  I worked with two fantastic master teachers that were great mentors in developing engaging lesson plans and helpful criticism in the classroom.  With completely different teaching styles, Mrs. Smith and Dr. Hoffman provide a glimpse into different and yet effective teaching.  Dr. Hoffman was very hands on as we planned my weekly lessons and he often co-taught lessons with me in the Senior SDAIE (specially designed academic instruction in English) American Government class.  Although Mrs. Smith supervised most of my lessons, she insisted that the Freshman Geography class was all mine to plan, teach, succeed or fail.  It was a lot of work, but my student's achievement was worth it!

Education

Masters of Educational Technology, Boise State University, Boise, Idaho

Spring 2014

Educational Technology is an innovative way to design, deliver, facilitate, and manage instruction for learners of all ages, whether it is face-to-face in a classroom, online, or a combination of methods. EdTech at Boise State is much more than multimedia add-ons.  It's a way of engaging learners to understand the implications of technology in today's society, empowering them to think supporting them to lead their own learning and career paths, as well as the learning of others.
